Cup of Tea

Thank you
For telling me I was on fire
When I was on fire

I would’ve figured it out eventually
But some things are better off nipped in the bud
So thanks for the bud nip, bud.

I really liked that shirt
I had it for so long
It had a softness only achieved by years of wear and washings

The shirt under that one
That was a new one
And I won’t miss that one at all

But the undershirt survived
Caught it in the nick of time.
No holes, but it smelled like a burning house
But that washed right out
And I’m wearing it now.

Anytime, anywhere, one never knows
When you’re gonna have to stop, drop, and roll.

My love we will survive
Ain’t it good to be survivors?
And I got your back too
Ain’t it good to have reminders?

If I hadn’t’ve been talking to you
I never would’ve turned my back to the burner
And leaned into the warmth of the flame
So, in a way, it’s your fault

But I forgive you for catching me on fire
When I was making tea a week ago

Thank you for saving my life twenty years ago
I leaned into the warmth of your soul
Twenty years can take a toll sometimes

Anytime, anywhere, one never knows
When you’re gonna have to stop, drop, and roll.

My love we will survive
Ain’t it good to be survivors?
And I got your back too
Ain’t it good to have reminders?
